Attendance

Attendance

Showing up for school has a huge impact on a student’s academic success starting in kindergarten and continuing through high school. Families play a key role in making sure students get to school safely every day and understand why attendance is so important for success in school and on the job.  We understand that children will get sick and need to stay home occasionally. In the event that your child is absent, please be aware of the procedures outlined below.

If your child is absent, it is essential that you report the reason for your child’s absence to the office (not their teacher) within two weeks of the absence or it becomes a truancy.  You can report your child’s absence by:

  • Calling the attendance clerk at 951.736.4640 (24 hours a day) or emailing [email protected]. In your message/email, please include your name, your child’s full name, his/her grade, the date of the absence, and the reason for the absence.
  • If the absence was more than two weeks ago, please call our office right away.

Important reminders regarding your child’s attendance:

  • Unresolved/Truancy absences, excessive absences (excused or unexcused), excessive tardies and/or early outs may result in your child being placed on an attendance contract.
  • Students in grades 4-8 have the opportunity to attend our Catch Up Day to receive credit for a day of absence. Catch Up Days are scheduled at least once a month on Saturday from 8-12:15. Attending a Catch Up Day will count for one (1) full day absence. Check our website or call the office if you would like more information.
  • Personal/Family Emergencies will be marked as unexcused absences. You may submit a request in writing and administration will consider excusing the absence.
  • As a courtesy, our message system notifies parents of unverified absences at the end of the school day.To ensure you receive the notifications you must have current contact numbers on file for each of your children.
  • Eighth Grade Students missing more than ten full days of school or more than forty class periods of school will not be eligible to participate in school activities (dances, picnics, etc.) whether the absences are excused or unexcused.
  • You can monitor your child’s attendance on the Parent Portal at https://parentconnect.cnusd.k12.ca.us/

Here are a few practical tips to help support regular attendance.

     *

Make sure your children keep a regular bedtime and establish a morning routine.

     *

Lay out clothes and pack backpacks the night before.

     *

Ensure your children go to school every day unless they are truly sick.

     *

Avoid scheduling vacations or doctor’s appointments when school is in session.

     *

Talk to teachers and counselors for advice if your children feel anxious about going to school.

     *

Develop back up plans for getting to school if something comes up. Call on a family member, neighbor, or another parent to take your child to school.

We want all of our students to be successful and want to ensure that they are at school every day!

Please let us know if we can help support you in ensuring your child’s success at CCA.
